How this is calculated
Every figure is the September average from ten years of daily ERA5 reanalysis (2015–2024) at each destination's base locality. High and low are the mean daily maximum and minimum; wet days is the average count of days with at least 1mm of rain. Destinations are grouped by those published figures alone — there is no composite score and no editorial ranking. Within a group they are ordered by average high.
What these averages do not tell you
Ten-year averages are not a forecast. This is what a normal September looks like, not what next September will do.
Wet days count frequency, not intensity. A month of light drizzle and a month of thunderstorms can score the same.
Mountain destinations vary enormously with altitude — the figure describes the base town, not the summit.
Sea temperature, wind and humidity are not included, and all three matter.
