The Most Sought-After Perks in Travel
The new year is upon us and many of us are already gazing into the future for a holiday pick-me-up. Let’s face it, we often look to our vacations as a sense of ‘escapism’ and January is often seen as a ‘depressing’ month, hosting the most depressing day of the year — Blue Monday. However, with a bit of forward planning, booking a holiday can perk us up at the start of the year. So, how do we make sure we go one better than our bog-standard break away? Here, we look at what our most sought-after travel perks are and what we can expect from our holiday packages in 2020.
Private transfers
In your typical package holiday, the transport to and from your destination is a bus which is shared with fellow holiday makers and makes a varying number of drop-offs. However, sometimes this just isn’t enough, and people prefer to travel just with those in their party. Therefore, companies are offering more private transfers to help you travel in added comfort. The likes of an Audi A7 can offer a luxurious feel and allow you to journey in style in your private ‘taxi’.
Room upgrades
Do you want a room with a view? Would you like to have a private hot tub all to yourselves? Of course you do! Unfortunately, this will usually come at a price. However, you may be able to bag a free hotel room upgrade! Travel experts have stated that by simply checking in late you’ll stand a better chance of getting that elusive free upgrade. This is because standard rooms will have the lowest availability due to demand, with some companies ending up overbooking due to no-shows.
Free Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi isn’t so much a luxury nowadays as a necessity. In 2019, 87 per cent of UK adults used the internet almost every day. It has become so important that TripAdvisor even offers lists of the top hotels in each country to offer free Wi-Fi. However, simply offering a ‘Wi-Fi area’ won’t be enough. Hoteliers must now branch out further and ensure that connection isn’t just in communal areas, but also private rooms too. After all, studies found that Brits spend an average of 79 minutes a day editing Instagram images on holiday, with each owning an average of 3.4 devices which are likely to join us on our travels.
Private pool
While not every hotel can offer you your very own pool, having a room in which the pool enters your balcony is an absolute delight. Relaxation is key in so many holiday itineraries, and what better way than to rise out of bed and go for an immediate dip? No sun lounger fights, no crowds, just total bliss.
Elsewhere, adults-only pools are a great way to entice us to choose a specific location. Even if we have kids in our company, a break from the intensity is sometimes required. An adults-only pool can provide just that, if only just for a moment.
Private chefs
Okay, so this one may be limited to the more lavish holidays. However, having a private chef can successfully create a buzz about the whole excursion. For many, the chore of cooking is something they want to leave behind when they head on a vacation. While a number of hotel restaurants will usually take care of this, the chance to have your own personal cook creating signature dishes really can add the ‘wow factor’.
The X Factor
This will differ depending on what type of holiday experience you are looking for. For example, a family holiday can have the X factor simply by having an extraordinary child’s pool and activities schedule. Elsewhere, those adults-only all-inclusive ventures may offer top brand spirit optics in the room. Whatever it is you’re looking for, hoteliers are desperate to provide their guests with the X factor — hoping for that five-star review because of it!
Of course, we all like different perks. However, these are some of the most common perks that people look out for on their adventures. Good luck gaining your most sought-after travel perks when you plan a trip away in 2020!
